Cultivating Safety
Building a foundation of physical and emotional peace.
I have been in flight mode since I don't know when... My childhood, or my teen years? Having to be constantly on the go, hypervigilant, and making plans in case something goes sideways. Literally, the only time I considered myself to be safe was when I was in the mountains, camping or daytripping, which is ironic, because bear! 😂
When your home or your life is not safe, what do you do to make yourself safe? I was going outdoors, where my nervous system dysregulation calmed down, where I could connect to the earth by walking barefoot. Of course, I would ride my bike more than 40 kilometers in my daytrip to the mountains, so not "relaxing", just safely connecting to a system that welcomed my body, Our Mother Earth.
Cultivating safety now means doing the deeply intentional work of bringing that refuge indoors. It is the vital transition from escaping an environment that harms me, to actively constructing an environment that holds me gently, allowing my nervous system to find rest without requiring a massive physical effort to achieve it.
Cultivating safety now means creating a rural living space that acts as a dedicated buffer against the chaotic, buzzing frequencies of the city life. It is about taking radical control over my immediate environment. I am building a sanctuary where my body can finally set down its armor, confident that the space I am in is a true home.
My long term plan to live and volunteer on a farm, accompanied by a Great Pyrenees who won't listen to any commands, but also won't leave my side. I want to work with bees and stock dogs as much as I can handle physically. Right now, I am working towards making that happen.
